Accredited Investor Gating

Verification asks who you are. Accreditation asks whether you qualify.

Infrastructure & Compliance Rails · Lesson 8.4

In the US, accreditation decides who can buy many private offerings. An individual generally qualifies with income above $200,000, or $300,000 together with a spouse or partner, in each of the past two years, with the same expected this year. Another route is a net worth above $1 million, excluding the main home. Holders of certain professional credentials, such as the Series 7, 65 or 82 licenses, also qualify. Onchain, accredited status can be stored as one more attribute on the allowlist that already holds an investor's KYC approval. Gating by wealth keeps some private offerings out of reach for most people, and the RWA Foundation supports opening access more widely.

Wally’s note: everyone else: please enjoy the lobby

The technology can already check who qualifies. The rules that decide who qualifies are what still limit access.
