What Is an RWA?

Real-world asset

Foundations · Lesson 1.1

A real-world asset, or RWA, is an asset that exists outside a blockchain, such as a Treasury bill, a private loan, a building or a bar of gold, and is represented by a token onchain. The token records a claim on the asset or on the entity that holds it. The asset itself stays where it is, with the same value and the same risks.

Wally’s note: a building. in a wallet. (sort of)

Tokenization does not change what an asset is worth. It can change who can hold it, how fast it settles and what can be built on top of it.
