Why Self-Reported Metrics Get Flagged

A number is only as reliable as whoever checked it

Risk & Red Flags · Lesson 11.1

A self-reported metric is any figure a project publishes about itself, such as assets, holders, yield or volume. Publishing these is normal. The issue is that nobody independent has checked them, and the project has reasons to present them well.

RWAs make this harder to judge. Token supply can be read onchain, but the assets behind it are held offchain. A headline figure might describe a live fund, a signed mandate or a pipeline that has not closed. A flag tells you whether you are looking at checked data or the issuer's own claim.

Wally’s note: source: trust me bro

A flag does not mean a number is false. It means nobody outside the issuer has checked it.
